From the Dorset Echo
A GROUP of Travellers who set up camp by Poundbury ’s Great Field have moved on after one night.
Six caravans arrived in Prince Charles’s model development on Monday lunchtime, setting up in an area behind the Dorset Cereals factory off Peverell Avenue East.
However, after discussions with representatives from the Duchy of Cornwall they left the site by 4pm yesterday.
Kevin Crabbe, Poundbury site manager for the Duchy, said he believed the Travellers had arrived in the area after visiting the Great Dorset Steam Fair at Tarrant Hinton near Blandford.
He said they had told him they were now heading to the official Travellers’ camp at Piddlehinton .
Mr Crabbe added that they had been co-operative and had not made any mess on the site.
He said: “They got here on Monday and we put skips out which have used and there has been no mess on site.”
Earlier this summer Travellers pitched up on land near the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service headquarters at Peverell Avenue West and last year a group of Travellers spent around two weeks on the Great Field itself.
