Gypsy site in Fulmer set for refusal - Buckinghamshire

From the Buckinghamshire Advertiser

VILLAGERS are fighting plans to build two Gypsy and Traveller pitches on Green Belt land.

South Bucks Council received an application from Joe Rooney to build two gypsy and traveller pitches in Fulmer Lane, Fulmer, on February 14 this year,

The application, which is for Green Belt land, involves changing the use of the land, which is currently classified as an area of woodland and outbuildings associated with the nearby Alderbourne Cottage, a Grade II listed building. Under the plan a washroom, toilet and utility area would be put in place, as well as room for two Traveller pitches.

The application has drawn 36 letters of objection from people living nearby, as well as the parish council, which believes it should be rejected on the grounds that it involves developing Green Belt land, and that it would put a strain on nearby Fulmer Infant School.

Other concerns involve the fact that it could create traffic problems and that nearby roads are too narrow for caravans and large vehicles to turn.

Chairman of Fulmer parish council, Pauline Vahey, said: “This is not NIMBYism, it is simply a case that they should not be allowed to build on Green Belt land because it is against the law.

“There would also be problems with extra children attending Fulmer Infant School because it is full, and the roads around the site are single track and can’t cope with caravans.

“It should not be allowed, but we do appreciate that more Traveller sites do need to be provided in South Bucks.”

The application says that Mr Rooney is keen to stay with his family in the area for his children to enjoy a settled education and that he believes the Fulmer site is perfect as it is isolated and surrounded by woodland.

However, the plan has been recommended for refusal by South Bucks District Council’s planning committee on the grounds that it is located on Green Belt land.

It was due to be heard at last night’s (Wednesday) planning committee meeting, after the Advertiser had gone to press.
