Travellers ordered to clean up junk - Cambridgeshire

From cambridge-news.co.uk

Piles of bricks, concrete and tree branches which were dumped by Travellers have been cleared after enforcement action was launched.

Travellers who trade from Fen Road in Chesterton were ordered to tidy up the land after council officers found evidence to trace lorry loads of waste back to them.

A legal notice was issued to Roger Clark, of Dersingham, Norfolk, before the leaseholder of the land – Chris Jenkins, of Fen Road – removed the waste.

The junk was discovered near Northern Bridge farm during a routine inspection by South Cambridgeshire District Council.

Cllr Sue Ellington, the cabinet member for environmental services, said: “Dumped waste and fly tipping is a blight on our landscape and it is good news that this area has been cleaned up following our action.”

Cllr Hazel Smith, who represents Milton, added: “Just a few people really let the area down.

“I know that most of the residents nearby are as disgusted as I am by the tipping that goes on and the cleaning up is a positive result for everyone nearby. I hope those dumping waste will now take note.”
