Travellers in caravans have illegally parked at Blackleach Country Park, Walkden, causing the temporary closure of the visitor's centre.
The caravans arrived at the Green Flag Award-winning park on Monday evening, say Salford council.
It is believed the Travellers will be asked to move to the official site at Duchy.
Councillor Gena Merrett, Assistant Mayor for Housing and Environment at Salford City Council said that an eviction process was already underway.
She said that the matter would be dealt with sensitively and through the appropriate channels, and issued the following statement.
“We are aware of Travellers illegally occupying a site within Blackleach Country Park in Walkden and as a result have temporarily had to close the visitors centre, which we regret having to do.
However the eviction process has commenced and we are working closely with Greater Manchester Police to minimise disruption to residents and visitors to the park. Our aim is to see the visitors centre reopened at the earliest opportunity and the centre and park available again to be enjoyed”.
