Travellers moved on from Prospect Park - Berkshire

From Get Reading

Travellers paid a brief visit to Prospect Park in Tilehurst on Friday.

Reading Borough Council, which owns the land, called police who made a Police Section 61 order, which sets a deadline for the travellers to leave.

They were asked to leave on Friday afternoon and they did so.

Council spokesman Oscar Mortali said: “As a result of regular incursions by Travellers on council-owned parks land, an injunction was successfully granted to Reading Borough Council in May 2009.

“This injunction prevents travellers from staying on Parks [department] land and it still remains in force.

“However, as a result of the recent incursion at Prospect Park, the council is considering making a fresh application to court for a formal declaration that the injunction is still in force.

“If that application is successful, it would make it easier for judges to take swift action on any further incursions in Reading.”
