It's a big fat Gypsy mess at nature reserve - Buckinghamshire

From MKWEB

TAXPAYERS will foot a bill which could run into thousands of pounds after Travellers left this mess at a nature reserve.

The group were evicted from the Blue Lagoon in Water Eaton on Friday by Milton Keynes Council but left a mass of rubbish on the green land.

Council workers have cleared the majority of the fly tipping but the work will have cost thousands of pounds to complete.

It is believed the encampment moved onto land off Avebury Boulevard in Central Milton Keynes over the weekend.

The group, of about ten caravans, was then handed an eviction order and by midday yesterday the majority had already left.

The Blue Lagoon site, accessible from Water Eaton Road, lies on the land of former brickworks and was redeveloped in the early 1990s to upgrade it to Local Nature Reserve Status.

A council spokesman said on Monday: “Unfortunately we are having to deal with a huge amount of rubbish on this site.

“We believe this was as the result of an illegal encampment.

“The cost of the clean up will run into thousands of pounds but we are treating it as a priority and we hope to have completed it by close of play today.

“We are also working closely with our partners at Thames Valley Police in trying to catch the culprits.”
