From OTS News
A group of Travellers who have been camping on the highway on The Esplanade, close to the Weld Road/Coast Road roundabout, have moved on, local Councillor Tony Dawson reports. But he still has concerns about the reporting regime and action timetable of Sefton Council and the police in addressing these incidents.
“The matter was reported to the police by a resident on last Friday evening,” says Cllr Dawson, “but the police inform me that there was no way that thy could get in touch with anyone from the Council over the entire weekend. The police say further that they themselves could not prosecute the Travellers for parking on double yellow lines as this is the Council’s responsibility, and that it was not an ‘obstruction’ which they could take action over. I do not agree with this latter statement.”
“I am sure that Travellers must know this lack of council availability means they will be left alone at weekends and exploit it to give them a couple of days when they will not be bothered.”
“There is meant to be a review of parking services coming up. One thing which I want to insist is addressed is making Parking Services contactable so that serve the people of Southport, not just the money-makers of Bootle.”
