From This Is Cheshire
THE council has to wait until after the Easter weekend to move a group of Travellers from the former Oliver Plunkett School site in Birchwood.
The groups, which had been on land off Silver Lane, Risley and Warrington Road, Birchwood, had been ordered to leave the two sites after Warrington Borough Council secured an order from Warrington Magistrates Court yesterday, Wednesday.
A council spokesman said: "Legal procedures were followed to formally evict travellers from three separate sites in Culcheth, Birchwood and Appleton yesterday (Wednesday), which are currently being cleaned up and closed off where possible.
“It appears that two of the encampments have now combined and moved onto a former school site in Birchwood.
“We are working in conjunction with partners including Cheshire Police and the owners of the land to find a solution.
“We expect further court action to be required to remove the Travellers from this site and this cannot now be undertaken until after Easter weekend.
“The council and the police will continue to closely monitor the situation over the weekend and until the situation is resolved.”
