Mystery over Gypsy site sign - Kent

From the Sevenoaks Chronicle

A MYSTERIOUS sign has appeared on Sevenoaks farmland, warning villagers of an upcoming Gypsy site.

But neither Underriver parish or district councillors have been consulted on the matter – and are keen to reassure residents.

Farmer William Bass, of Carters Hill, has had issues with his neighbours for more than a decade.

Earlier this year, he was slapped with a restraining order banning him from contacting or communicating about immediate neighbours David, Brenda and Christopher Leafe, until January 10, 2017.

He was also sentenced to jail for 84 days.

However, Mr Bass has now erected a sign on his property which reads: "This land is for future development for a Gypsy site. More info to follow."

A spokesman for SDC pointed out the land is in the green belt and confirmed there were no planning applications from Mr Bass.

District councillor for Weald and Seal, of which Underriver is a ward, Julia Thornton, said: "We've heard nothing about it and I'm very keen to reassure villagers that this is not an authorised development."

Mr Bass did not answer a request for a comment.
