Car park travellers leave - Derbyshire

From Ilkeston Advertiser

TRAVELLERS, who set up camp in Ilkeston town centre, have upped sticks after nearly a week at the rear of a car park today (Friday).

Three caravans arrived in Pimlico car park, next to the Scala Cinema, on Saturday.

On Monday, Erewash Borough Council officers slapped an order to vacate the car park within 24 hours on each van, threatening court action if they refused.

After six days the travellers left the site.

A case was due to be heard at Derby County Court on Friday April 27.

A council spokesman said: “We are happy that we have gone through the necessary procedures and we will continue to make sure that Travellers do not occupy car parks in the borough.”
