Rejected: 137 new homes and extra Gypsy pitches for Bidford - Warwickshire

From the Stratford Upon Avon Herald

CONTROVERSIAL proposals to build 137 homes on land off Salford Road, Bidford-on-Avon, were rejected unanimously last night (Tuesday) by Stratford District Council's west area planning committee.

Councillors had been recommended by planning officials to approve the scheme—which also included a much-needed new medical centre for the village—but the committee members decided the disadvantages of the project outweighed its potential benefits.

Representatives from the applicants, Welbeck Land (Ifield) Ltd, said the company would be appealing against the decision.

The committee—which held its meeting in Bidford's Crawford Memorial Hall in front of about 180 local residents—also unanimously rejected proposals to increase the number of pitches from six to ten at a Gypsy site at the old railway yard, Waterloo Road, Bidford.
