From Brighton and Hove News
Brighton and Hove residents are ‘extremely angry at the Green Party and their lackadaisical policies’, according to Hove MP Mike Weatherley.
The MPs comments follow a public meeting he organised in Patcham to discuss the proposed new Traveller site at Horsdean, which is on the edges of the South Downs National Park.
The meeting at Patcham Community Centre was attended by hundreds of residents and Mr Weatherley said he will organise another meeting at a large venue to allow more people to attend and discuss the subject.
The issue of Travellers in Brighton and Hove has become a key clash between the Green Party and Conservatives in the city with the Tories objecting to the use of public money to fund a permanent Traveller site, although the intention to find a location has been on the council’s agenda for many years.
Weatherley and his colleagues have argued that this site will do little to prevent invasions by Travellers in parks in the city, which the Green Party have been accused by Tory MPs and councillors of encouraging.
He said: “Quite rightly residents are extremely angry at the Green Party and their lackadaisical policies. The Green administration cannot continue to ignore the wishes of residents; together we will fight the plans for a Traveller site on the South Downs National Park.”
He added: “I will certainly be organising another meeting for residents. Given that around 500 people turned up, I will be sure next time to find a venue that will have room for everyone.”
