Enforcement notices were today served on three pitches at the former Dale Farm site where unoccupied caravans and buildings still breach planning regulations.
The High Court insisted that Basildon Council re-supply electricity to the site before it could serve the notices.
There's not much left to remove, just a couple of portable structures and a small derelict building.
Cllr Tony Ball, leader of the council, said: “We made it quite clear that there was due legal process to be followed to enable the council to progress the next stages of enforcement in the Dale Farm area. “Now that electricity has been restored to the pitches in accordance with the court order, we have served enforcement notices to tie up the remaining loose ends on the Dale Farm site.
But when it comes to this patch of land in Essex loose ends are not so easily tied. Next the council will have to focus attention on the occupiers of caravans stationed along the track leading to Dale Farm and those on the lawful Oak Lane site who are in breach of planning conditions.
Cllr Ball added: "The occupiers of these caravans should not be where they are, they are breaking the law and I would urge them one last time to see sense and move away."
Last month the council said the neighbouring site had become a "health hazard" because of overcrowding. Many of the Dale Farm residents have simply moved next door.
If I ask local resident, Len Gridley, his thoughts on this I can already guess his reaction. To get an idea see Undercover Reporter's blog from August. http://blogs.news.sky.com/skyinvestigates/Post:707207b0-350d-4958-85e8-d74b50d0c663
