Gypsy liaison team gets £3,500 funding - Derbyshire

AN organisation that supports Traveller communities has been awarded £3,500 from Derbyshire County Council.

The Derbyshire Gypsy Liaison Group – which works with people on the council-owned traveller sites at Lullington Crossroads, Church Broughton and Corbriggs – supports people with health issues, and helps them getting access to services, especially those who can’t read.

Siobhan Spencer, coordinator at the Matlock-based group said the money will be used to cover the group’s general running costs.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesperson said: “It is a useful negotiating body giving us a direct link into the travelling community when there are potentially controversial or sensitive issues to be dealt with.

“We are pleased to award this funding to continue this extremely positive work.
