Travellers move onto Galpharm Stadium car park - Yorkshire

From the Huddersfield Examiner

A GROUP of Travellers have set up camp on a car park at the Galpharm Stadium.

But officials are hopeful the group will have moved on before Friday night’s Super League clash between Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tigers.

The Travellers moved on to the St Andrew’s Road car park late on Tuesday evening with 10 caravans and a series of lorries and vans.

Gareth Davies, chief executive of Kirklees Stadium Developments Ltd, said: "We are playing it softly, softly.

"They arrived on Tuesday night and my staff spoke to them on Wednesday morning.

"They told us one of their vehicles had broke down and needed repairs.

"They are aware we have a game here at the stadium on Friday evening and have assured us they will have moved on before that point".

It is the latest in a series of incidents involving Travellers across Kirklees.

The council has spent many thousands of pounds seeking county court orders to move on groups of Travellers from playing fields and other sites.
