Travellers move into Portsmouth’s park and ride - Hampshire

WORK is being done this morning to remove a group of Travellers from Portsmouth’s park and ride.
Police were called after seven vehicles and seven caravans moved into the Tipner site off the M275 last night.
There have been no reports of anti-social behaviour and the situation has been passed on to Portsmouth City Council to deal with.

The cost of evicting Travellers from illegal camps this year has surpassed the total from 2013 – despite being just seven months into the year.
The Argus can reveal that last year Brighton and Hove City Council applied for 21 county court possession orders to evict travellers at £280 each.
As of June 19, 2014 they had already filed for 20 this year – with others since.

Plans for Gypsy pitches near Ston Easton turned down by planners - Somerset

PLANS for two Gypsy pitches backing onto the busy A37 between Shepton and Ston Easton were turned down by planners last week.
The application for two pitches and utility and dayrooms at Old Gore Wood, Old Gore Lane, Emborough was turned down, despite being recommended for approval by the planning officer.
The council had received 90 letters of objection about the scheme from members of the public.

Religious festival is attended by 1,000 Travellers - Cambridgeshire

A picturesque village has gone into lockdown after an empty field was invaded by 200 caravans and 1,000 people for a born-again Christian festival for Irish Travellers and Gypsies.
Stunned shopkeepers complained traveller children have been running amok and one pub landlord has locked his doors after the caravans descended on Swavesey, near Cambridge, on Saturday.
Angry villagers claimed yesterday they were duped into granting permission for a small six-day religious festival with a dozen caravans to be held on the 30-acre field.

Datchet Traveller site approved despite concerns - Berkshire

A TRAVELLER site for Datchet Common has been approved by a council’s planning panel despite concerns about increased urbanisation and flooding.
The application to change the use of Green Belt land in Horton Road to a Gypsy and Traveller site consisting of nine pitches, five utility buildings, a play area, warden’s office and associated works, will now be referred to the government for a final decision.

Outrage at "devastation" left at school playing field vacated by Travellers - Yorkshire

Travellers have caused outrage after leaving "devastation" at a school playing field - and then moving to a site just half-a-mile down the road.
Building rubble, human excrement, piles of rubbish, doors, a fridge, fence panels, a sofa and children's toys were among items that could be seen strewn across the field off Bradford Road, Clayton, yesterday.
The group first arrived at the site at the beginning of July, forcing Clayton Church of England Primary School to postpone its summer fete until September.
