From the Huddersfield Daily Examiner
TRAVELLERS have quit a Huddersfield car park and another illegal camp set up less than two miles away has also been cleared.
A group of Travellers moved off the Springwood pay-and-display car park in Huddersfield yesterday – leaving behind piles of rubbish.
Now more caravans have appeared on the Leeds Road Retail Park, near to the ScS furniture store.
It is thought the Travellers have been there for several days.
Yesterday Travellers left the council car park at Springwood, just 24 hours after Kirklees Council was granted a possession order by a Huddersfield County Court judge.
Rubbish left by Travellers at Springwood car park
The Travellers did not wait to be evicted and moved off before bailiffs served a legal notice.
The car park was left littered with rubbish.
The Travellers told the Examiner on Monday that they wanted Kirklees to send round binmen to collect their rubbish – “just like they do for people who live in houses.”
A council spokesman said the Travellers had left before bailiffs had visited the site.
The car park would now be cleaned up.
The agents believed to run the retail park could not be contacted for a comment.
