Eight families could move to Travellers' site in Holyport - Berkshire

From the Maidenhead Advertiser

Travellers could soon be setting up home in Holyport if the Royal Borough council grants planning permission.

An application has been submitted to the council by Maurice Mcann and others to transform land at the rear of Skippets Lodge Orchard Glen into a residential caravan site.

If successful the vacant site in Forest Green Road would provide a home for eight Traveller families.

Each would have pitches for two caravans including one which would be static.

The application also includes the construction of four amenity buildings, the laying of hard standing material and the formation of new accesses.

Responding to the application Holyport Road householder, Andrew Cormie, said: "I have no objection to travelling people settling down provided that they behave as normal people, not causing any disturbance and fit in with the existing population."

But borough councillor Leo Walters (Con, Bray) said he did not think Travellers would be welcomed and added he would be keeping a watching brief on the situation.

A decision is expected by May 8.
