More than 1,000 Gorseinon residents rally at land on Gypsy Traveller site short-list - Glamorgan

From This Is South Wales

MORE than 1,000 Gorseinon residents have gathered to protest against two areas becoming Gypsy and Traveller sites.

Swansea Council is looking at five potential areas in Swansea including land on either side of Heol y Mynydd in Gorseinon.

But campaigners say they want to keep what they say is one of the last remaining pieces of green land in their town.

Protestors of all ages held placards and chanted "Save Melin Mynach" while petitions were passed around.

Organiser Helen Davies took to the microphone to address the hundreds of protesters.

She said: "We're still in the consultation period. This is very important that everybody who's got an opinion whether that's a positive or a negative one about setting up Travellers sites, needs to make it known. That opinion is important."
