RESIDENTS are to be consulted on plans to establish a Traveller site at Old Junction Yard, off Winterstoke Road in Weston.
The plan contains space for 25 static sites and five short-stay sites, as well as a playground and grazing area for animals.
Dust surveys are currently being undertaken because of the site’s close vicinity to a cement works. There are four bungalows in the close surrounding area.
Speaking at a public meeting in South Ward, Cllr Ian Parker said he wanted people who might be affected to be aware of the proposal.
He said: “I don’t have a problem with it, but then I’m not living near it. People should be made aware of it. So I would urge people to look at this information and if you do have any concerns make a response.”
North Somerset Council needs to provide 60 new pitches by the end of 2016 to deal with a growing number of Travellers in the area.
Deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees said: “We have a requirement to meet Government legislation to find suitable sites for our residents, Gypsy and Traveller population.
“We have spent several months searching for suitable locations which are within reasonable distance of community and education facilities but where the residents can continue to follow their preferential lifestyle.”
Consultation documents will be on display at the For All Healthy Living Centre in Lonsdale Avenue on the Bournville estate on March 26 and 27.
