D-day for the Springwood car park Travellers as Kirklees goes to court - Yorkshire

From the Huddersfield Daily Examiner

Kirklees Council is today applying to the court for a possession order to give the Travellers notice to leave the council-owned car park, just off the ringroad.

At midday the council will present its case to Kirklees magistrates, and if successful the Travellers will be given 48 hours once the order is served to vacate the site.

If they fail to leave, a warrant will be issued with the County Court bailiffs for eviction.

Dozens of spaces in the Springwood car park have been out of action since the Travellers moved onto the site with caravans, vans and lorries on Tuesday.

Kirklees Council says if they charge them car park fees to use the spaces, as they do motorists, it would be authorising their stay on the land.

Last night the Travellers’ caravans were still on the site, along with a truck and a JCB digger.
