Barton le Clay residents to hold public meeting keeping up the fight against 'unsound' Gypsy site - Bedfordshire

From Bedfordshire On Sunday

OBJECTORS to a proposed Gypsy site in Barton Le Clay are to meet again this week to discuss how to put forward their concerns to the secretary of state.

Site 16 at Faldo Road in the town is one of seven Gypsy and traveller sites shortlisted by Central Bedfordshire Council and is due to be submitted to the secretary of state later this year who will then appoint an inspector to decide whether the plan is sound and should go ahead.

If approved it would have 15 pitches and would provide almost half of the council’s requirement for the whole of Central Bedfordshire until 2031.

At present the authority is holding a public consultation on its plan until March 31 and so a public meeting has been organised by those opposing site 16’s creation.

It will be held at Barton Rovers Football Club on Wednesday night at 8pm. All are welcome to attend and advice will be available showing residents how they can object on the grounds of; the site being created on Green Belt land, road safety, increase in pitch numbers, and proximity to other sites.
