From Biggleswade Today
A town council has said it “fully rejects” the expansion of a Gypsy and Traveller site.
Potton Town Council has issued a statement about Central Beds Council’s proposed expansion of the town’s existing Gypsy and Traveller Site in Common Road. The latter wants to expand the site from 14 to 27 pitches.
The statement says: “Central Beds Council has an obligation by law to plan for additional pitches for the Gypsy and Traveller community.
“Potton Town Council fully accepts that Central Beds Council has to meet these requirements; however the council objects that a disproportionate amount of the proposed sites could be located within and adjacent to Potton.
“For the last 17 years since the size of the site was reduced we have had good community cohesion between the residents of the site and the settled community and for this reason Potton Town Council fully rejects any increase to the current number of pitches on Common Road or to any new sites or developments within Potton or the immediate area.
“Potton Town Council has and will continue to object to any further developments.”
