Council lock Gypsies out of Birchenwood playing fields in Kidsgrove - Staffordshire

From the Sentinel

COUNCIL chiefs are locking the gates of a car park again – after Gypsies moved onto the site and caused disruption to a host of events.

The barrier at the Birchenwood playing fields car park, on Mount Road in Kidsgrove, will block the entry to prevent cars coming in at night, after travellers caused several football matches to be rescheduled and hit businesses.

Newcastle Borough Council said it had reduced the hours of car park attendants due to changing shift patterns, and residents were beginning to fear the gates had been forgotten.

But following the departure of the Gypsies last Tuesday the barrier at Birchenwood will once again be locked.
