From Cambridge News
Legal proceedings have started to move a group of Travellers off a disused Cambridge pub car park.
The three trailer caravans and associated vehicles moved on to the car park of The Ranch, in Histon Road, Arbury, last week and complaints have been received from nearby residents.
Agents for the site, which is currently unoccupied, have said proceedings have now begun to move the Travellers on.
Planning consultant Januarys is putting together an application on behalf of Lucy Cavendish College and Bondsway for student accommodation for mature female students to be built on the former pub site.
Colin Brown, Januarys’ managing director, said: “Regrettably the longer any site stays empty the more difficult it becomes to protect it from trespass and unlawful occupation.
“The site has been vacant for a long time now so it’s vital it is brought back into use as soon as possible, helping to regenerate the area by providing well-designed accommodation for Lucy Cavendish College’s mature female students.
“There is no realistic alternative – the site has simply not worked as a pub.
“We will be putting our planning application in for the proposed development by the end of November.”
