Gypsy & Traveller consultation draws to an end - Dorset

The consultation about proposed Gypsy and Traveller sites in North Dorset finishes on Friday 10 February.

There are only a few days left to make any last minute representations.

All Dorset councils have been working with consultants, Baker Associates, to identify and assess potentially suitable locations against strict criteria, before drawing up a shortlist of options for each Dorset council.

Councillor Deborah Croney, Portfolio Holder for Economy at North Dorset District Council, said: ” The consultation process, including the public exhibitions, have given residents plenty of opportunities to find out more about the process and speak to Baker Associates and council staff about any queries or concerns they may have.”

The consultation on the Dorset-wide Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople Site Allocations Joint Development Plan Document (DPD) Issues and Options has run for 12 weeks since 18 November 2011.

All Dorset councils are working together to produce a Development Plan Document (DPD) dealing with the provision of sites for Gypsies and Travellers. Once adopted, this document will allocate permanent and transit sites to meet Dorset’s needs for the next 15 years.

People are encouraged to respond to the consultation on-line, if possible. Otherwise, the questionnaire can be completed and handed in at a town or parish council office or posted to the district council.

The consultation documents and details of exhibitions and sites across Dorset can be found at www.dorsetforyou.com/travellerpitches.
