CONTROVERSIAL plans for a Gypsy and Traveller site in Winsford are expected to be approved next week.
Cheshire West and Chester Council’s strategic planning committee will meet on Thursday at Wyvern House to cast their vote on the proposal, earmarked for land off Barlow Drive.
The plans include 20 permanent Gypsy and Traveller pitches with utility blocks and a warden’s office. Each pitch will have enough space for parking two cars, a touring caravan and a static caravan.
There will also be provision for an on-site play area and access will be gained directly off Barlow Drive.
The proposal, put forward by CWAC to help combat its shortage of Gypsy and Traveller sites in the borough, has sparked outrage from residents who say they have not been consulted properly over the plans.
Residents have also complained that, if approved, Winsford will have more Gypsy and Traveller sites than anywhere else in Cheshire West.
Businesses based on the neighbouring Woodford Park Industrial Estate have also spoke out against the plans with concerns that the site could prevent future investment and cost businesses more in extra security.
It is also feared the proposed development will have a harmful impact on property values and wildlife in the area.
Winsford Town Council objected to the application in December on the grounds of inadequate consultation, harm to the environment, concerns about waste water and the impact on the business park.
The plans have been recommended for approval but will also be debated at CWACs executive meeting on Wednesday.
Anyone wanting to speak at the strategic planning meeting must register their interest before 12 noon the day before the meeting.
If you do not register to speak, you will not be allowed to speak at the committee meeting. For more information call 0300 123 7027 or email: planning@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk
