From the News
POLICE are working with Portsmouth City Council to remove Travellers from a field.
As previously reported in The News, 12 caravans arrived at King George V Playing Fields, in Cosham, on Saturday.
An extra five have since moved in and police visited the site this morning to keep tabs on the situation.
Portsmouth City Council is working with officers because it owns the land.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘We remain aware of a Travellers’ encampment on the King George V recreation ground off Northern Road in Cosham.
‘Officers have visited the site again this morning to assess the situation.
‘There are 17 caravans on the ground.
‘We are working with Portsmouth City Council to consider options for the Travellers to move on peacefully and safely.’
A council spokesperson said: ‘We’re working closely with police on this situation, and expect it to be resolved soon.’
