Travellers' caravans moved on from Camberley park - Surrey

Get Surrey

A Travellers camp that sprang up in a Camberley park last week has been moved on.

Around 15 caravans pitched up at Heatherside Recreation Ground at around 10am on Thursday (July 4), coinciding with another incursion on Bisley Village Green off the A322 at midday the same day.

Surrey Heath Borough Council - which has responsibility for Traveller liaison - confirmed on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon (July 9) that the Camberley camp had gone, writing: "The Travellers that were on Heatherside Rec have now left the site. We will continue to work with the police and monitor the situation."

Three vehicles and caravans tried to gain access to Lightwater Country Park last Monday (July 1) but were swiftly moved on by police.

There are currently two designated Traveller camps in Surrey Heath – Swift Lane in Bagshot and Kalima in Chobham - each with 15 plots.
