Travellers set up camp near Walsall school - West Midlands

From the Express and Star

Travellers have set up a new camp in Walsall, on a common across the road from a junior school.

More than half a dozen caravans have settled on Delves Green, off Bell Lane.

The encampment opposite Delves Infants and Junior schools is the latest in the borough within the last week.

Council leader Mike Bird today said: “These illegal encampments are not welcome in Walsall.

“All they do is leave mess and disruption behind and are a drain on taxpayers.”

Walsall Council was forced to obtain a court order to move on travellers from Broadway West playing fields just last week.

The playing fields are undergoing a £400,000 revamp to allow sports to be held there again.

Council chiefs said the site has now been cleaned up and there had been no substantial damage to the newly-seeded areas.
