Decision yet to be made on controversial Moston Gypsy site - Cheshire

From the Middlewich Guardian

DISCUSSIONS about four Gypsy pitches in Dragon’s Lane, Moston, are continuing after the plans were removed from a council meeting at the 11th hour.

The proposal was due to be discussed at Cheshire East Council’s southern planning committee but has been deferred for further talks on ecological matters.

Natural England has been in touch with the council as the site is near Sandbach Flashes, a site of special scientific interest.

The application could see eight caravans, four brick buildings, eight parking spaces and associated hardstanding, driveways and waste disposal facilities built in Moston, an area known for its ponds, flashes and marshland.

David Wright, chairman of Action Moston, said: “One of the aims of our group is to preserve the open countryside and over the last few months we have repeatedly pointed out the ecological implications of these proposed developments.

“That they will irreversibly damage prime agricultural land and will destroy wildlife habitats and pathways.”
