CONTROVERSIAL plans to develop a permanent Gypsy and Traveller site in Crewe have been submitted today.
If approved, the Parkers Road site would house 10 pitches and an amenity block with washrooms, a kitchen, dayroom and laundry.
The application, which has received backlash from hundreds of residents, is expected to be discussed by Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board in early March.
A spokesman for the council said: “Due to high levels of public interest in the proposed site, it has been decided to keep residents informed as the process moves forward.
“The application will be processed, which will take approximately seven working days to undertake from submission, after which time the application and its appropriate reference number will be publicised and the necessary planning protocol followed.
“This includes a planning consultation where residents will be able to write to the council expressing their views.
“Residents in the immediate locality, plus others who have written with comments in advance of the application, will be notified of its submission.”
A petition signed by more than 5,500 residents opposing the site is due to be discussed at the next meeting of full council on February 23.
All comments on the application, which should quote the relevant application number, should be sent to: Development Management, PO Box 606, Municipal Buildings, Crewe, Cheshire, CW1 9HP.
Comments can also be submitted on the council’s website at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk.
