Second order to move Travellers from Walsall common - West Midlands

From the Express and Star

Travellers are to be moved on again from Walsall – after the council secured its second court order within a week.

Ten caravans and seven vehicles will be forced to leave the Delves Green common, off Bell Lane.

Walsall Council was alerted to the unauthorised encampment on Monday, and notices requiring the Travellers to move on were issued.

But they failed to leave, and an order for the removal of vehicles and property from the site was granted through Walsall Magistrates Court yesterday.

It comes after the caravans were ordered from Broadway West Playing Fields last week.

The playing fields are undergoing a £400,000 revamp to clean up the once-contaminated land to allow sports to return.

Fencing that had been put up during the work had been moved to allow the Travellers’ vehicles to get on to the land.

Concerns have been raised over camps settling on land in Walsall.

Palfrey councillor Mohammad Nazir said: “We need to have the open space for the reason it is there for, which is for people to use, not to be occupied.”
