Illegal Hatfield Travellers given their marching orders - Hertfordshire

From the Welling Hatfield Times

TRAVELLERS who set up an illegal encampment in Hatfield have been given their marching orders by officials.

Hertfordshire County Council has served the residents of the caravans with papers almost six weeks after they set up on the authority’s land near the town’s Tesco Extra store on Oldings Corner.

A spokesman for the body said: “In general Hertfordshire County Council will always try to move on anyone illegally setting up on our land.

“What usually happens is there is a welfare assessment carried out to asses their need to be there and such things.

“In general we try to move them on as soon as we can unless there are some mitigating factors.”

The council official said a number of complaints had been received about the Travellers and he expects them to have moved on by tomorrow (Thursday).
