Travellers in Birchwood, Culcheth and Glazebury on the move again - Cheshire

From This Is Cheshire

AUTHORITIES have said they are monitoring the situation as Travellers formerly in the Birchwood area have moved again.

The group had moved to Shaw Street, Culcheth on Sunday before leaving at 9pm on Monday and setting up camp behind the Marks and Spencer clothing warehouse in Glazebury.

They were due to be earlier today again.

Clr Keith Bland (CON – Culcheth, Croft and Glazebury) attended with police when the travellers were moved on.

He said: “Fortunately they were on a sports ground so we could move them on but they are on private land now so it becomes more difficult.”

He added the Travellers claimed they did not break the lock on gates around Shaw Street in order to enter the land.

It is the same group who moved onto land by Birchwood Way and the former Oliver Plumkett site before the Easter bank holiday.

Inspector Kate Tomlinson said: “We are continuing to work alongside the council and other agencies in a bid to resolve the issue.”
