Legal action started against Travellers - Lincolnshire

From the Grimsby Telegraph

TRAVELLERS camped on a former school playing field in Cleethorpes have been issued with a court summons.

Three caravans and various other vehicles have been parked on the former Lindsey School playing fields, off Taylors Avenue, since the weekend, as reported.

The Travellers were served with a notification to leave by North East Lincolnshire Council on Monday, but failed to do so.

It means legal proceedings have now begun, with the Travellers being summoned to appear at Grimsby Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

Councillor Chris Shaw, leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: "We have started legal proceedings to move the Travellers from the site off Taylor's Avenue, in Cleethorpes.

"A summons was delivered yesterday morning requiring them to attend Grimsby Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning.

"This follows the direction to leave the site that was issued on Monday."

It is believed that the Travellers lifted a locked gate off its hinges to allow access to the field, which was not taken on by Cleethorpes Academy when it took over the former Lindsey School building and associated land on the other side of the road.
