Brecon Beacons: Gypsy family temporary site stay agreed - Powys

From the BBC

A family of Romany Gypsies have been given permission to stay on a temporary site in the Brecon Beacons as plans are finalised for a new permanent home.

Powys council intends to spend more than £2m on the new camp in Brecon and said it could open early next year.

The family have lived at Cefn Cantref near the town since 2008 and have permission to stay until February 2014.

The council will compulsorily purchase land for the new site and it follows a 15-year search for a permanent home.

Powys council confirmed that Brecon Beacons National Park Authority had agreed to extend the family's stay at Cefn Cantref.

The authority said people had until 20 June to submit objections to the planned new site adjacent to Brecon Enterprise Park.
