Clearing of unauthorised Travellers' site may cost up to £300,000 - Berkshire

From the Royal borough Observer

IT COULD cost the Royal Borough £300,000 to clear an unauthorised Travellers' site.

The Royal Borough has set aside the figure for costs relating to the clearing of the unauthorised Travellers' site at Five Oaks Farm, in Shurlock Road, in Waltham St Lawrence.

The owners and occupants of the site were served 28-days notice last month to leave the site voluntarily before direct action to remove them was taken by the council.

The notice period expires on Tuesday and the council continues to negotiate with other organisations, including bailiffs, to establish an agreed date for the works to begin if necessary,

Once the date has been agreed, 48 hours notice will be given to the owners and occupants of the site to leave.

The Royal Borough is also working with the occupants to find another solution leading to the site being cleared.
