A TRAVELLER has been arrested after a dog attacked a police community support officer.
The PCSO was attacked by a Saluki Lurcher at the encampment off Havant Road, Emsworth.
Twelve caravans moved on to the small cul-de-sac last Thursday.
The site is next to the A27 and has a cycle track next to it.
A spokeswoman for Havant Borough Council said: ‘Following an attack on a Police Community Support Officer by a dog on the site, a dangerous dog was removed by Hampshire Police and Havant Borough Council Animal Welfare with a member of the group arrested for offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1992.
‘The group have also received warnings from Hampshire Constabulary Roads Policing Unit regarding obstruction of the cycle path in this area.’
Police have ordered the Travellers to leave the area under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, although no forcible action has been taken yet.
The land is owned by Hampshire County Council.
One the county council’s behalf, Havant Borough Council is waiting for a court date at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court to allow bailiffs to evict the group.
The dog has been taken to Gatwick while the investigation continues into the biting incident yesterday.
