Pickering wards Lib Dem Councillors Abigail Bell and Claire Thomas have welcomed the news that Travellers have left a site on Burnham Road.
Officers working for the Council checked the site this morning and it has been confirmed that all the Travellers left last night.
The Council has served an Immediate Possession Order on the playing field which means that the site can not be occupied for another three months.
Cllr Claire Thomas said, “I welcome the news that the Travellers have left the site. For too long, local residents have had to put up with the mess, inability to use the site and so on.”
“Abigail Bell and I have called on the Council to clean the site up as soon as possible.”
She added, “This is a recurring problem in the area and we have been working hard with the Council to improve the security of the site. However, we are very disappointed that it has taken so long to get action on the site this time and so have called for an inquiry into how the problem can be dealt with better if the problem should happen again, and at how the site can be made more secure.”
