Council taking action on Travellers in Batley - Yorkshire

From Kirklees Council

Kirklees Council is taking swift action to remove a group of Travellers from public open space at Carters Fields, North Bank Road, Batley.

It is reported that the group moved on to the land on Sunday, June 17.

Cllr Shabir Pandor, Cabinet member for Resources and also a ward councillor for Batley West, said: “I am taking this issue very seriously and situations like this are always treated as a priority.

“I have asked our legal officers to issue proceedings through the County Court to secure a possession order for the land and to move the Travellers as quickly as possible.

“Any clean-up operation that is needed afterwards in the area will also happen as soon as possible.

“Working with council officers, I am determined to make sure that the disruption to local residents, and also people who use these community facilities, is kept to a minimum.”
