Gypsy family accept Rowsley site offer - Derbyshire

From the Derbyshire Times

A family of Gypsies have accepted Derbyshire Dales District Council’s offer of a temporary Traveller site – on the proviso that the authority provides them with an electricity supply.

Last month the Mercury reported that the family of Travellers had demanded an independent site review of the Old Station Close car park – where they have permission to reside for nine months while the authority finds a permanent site in the Dales.

This week the family withdrew the demand but insisted on having an electricity supply provided.

A district council spokesperson said the request was “currently being investigated” by the authority.

Planning permission allows a maximum four caravans to be sited on the Old Station Close car park. The nine month time limit is activated from the day the family move onto the site.

“Public consultation has now ended on the potential permanent Traveller site at Homesford and our Corporate Committee will discuss this further on July 23,” the spokesperson added.
