Cavan to host Traveller’s Movement AGM - Ireland

From Northern Sound

Tomorrow, Cavan is set to receive delegates from across the country as the annual national conference for the Irish Travellers Movement gets underway.

Damian Walsh, membership worker with the movement, says Cavan was chosen as this year’s venue because the Cavan Travellers Movement is an emerging voice in the community.

It’s fifty years since the publication of the Commission of Itinerancy Report, which was considered damaging in its portrayal of Travellers.

There will be many topics under discussion including diversity, equality, and depression and will take place in Cavan Crystal tomorrow morning at 10am. Damian Walsh explains the damaging effects of the fifty-year-old commission report.
