TAXPAYERS today faced stumping up thousands of pounds for a wrecked public cricket pitch in Aberdeen.
The damage was discovered at Aberdeen’s Hazlehead Academy playing fields, part of which was recently used as a Travellers’ camp.
More than 20 caravans left the site on Wednesday after an emergency eviction notice was served.
Aberdeen City Council’s finance chief Cllr Willie Young said: “Part of the pitch has been destroyed and it will have to be replaced. Our officers have said it will cost approximately £20,000 to fix.”
