Chance to discuss York Traveller site plans - Yorkshire

RESIDENTS from two York villages will have their first opportunity tonight to ask questions and give their views since The Press revealed that Travellers’ sites are being planned in their communities.

Ward committee meetings are being held by City of York Council this evening at Poppleton Community Centre and Dunnington Primary School.

The council is proposing in its new Local Plan to allocate land at Common Lane and Hassacarr Lane, Dunnington, for a permanent 15-pitch site between 2014 and 2019, and to allocate land off Wetherby Road, Knapton, for a permanent 20-plot “Showpeople’s yard”.

Rural West York councillor Chris Steward said the Showpeople’s yard will not be explicitly on the agenda at the Rural West York ward meeting.

But people could raise any ward issues they wanted at ward meetings, and he assumed the Local Plan would be discussed as much as everything else combined.
