Travellers camp on road near Plymouth hotel, council sends toilets - Devon

From the Plymouth Herald

GUESTS have been driving through a Traveller site to get to their hotel.

William Prance Road at Plymouth International Business Park, in Derriford, has become home to about a dozen caravans.

The road leads to The Future Inn, a three-star hotel which provides extensive conference facilities and often houses guests on business.

Ellie Tozer, from the Future Inn, said: “Guests aren’t happy to see them there.

“There are probably 10 to 15 caravans near the hotel and they have been there for about a week.

“They’re not on our land – they’re by the road that brings you down to the hotel but the caravans go all the way to the roundabout.

“The manager has been in discussions with the council and has been advised to call the non-emergency police number, 101, if there are any problems.

“There has been no trouble so far that I am aware of.”

Council workers were seen delivering portable toilets to the site and Plymouth City Council confirmed it is following the usual procedures.

A spokesperson from the council said: “We have undertaken the required welfare checks and are following our normal procedures for dealing with unauthorised encampments which are available on our website at http://www.plymouth.gov.uk/revised_gt_ue_procedures.pdf.”
