Gypsies set up camp in district nearly 100 times in three years - Derbyshire

From Derby Telegraph

NEARLY 100 Gypsy camps have been reported in South Derbyshire in the past three years.

The district council received 31 calls in 2011, 37 in 2010 and 30 in 1009 – a total of 98 calls. All were on private land. There have been no reports so far in 2012.

The figures were released under a Freedom of Information act.

South Derbyshire District Council is responsible for dealing with any illegal camping on land it owns, as well as on common land.

It has introduced measures to try to prevent Gypsy camps, including concrete blocks at Swadlincote Skate Park.

Legally it is up to Derbyshire County Council and private landowners to move on unlawful encampments on their land.
