Travellers arrive at open space in middle of Peterborough housing estate - Cambridgeshire

From the Peterborough Telegraph

Saturday, 1pm: Travellers have set up camp on a picturesque area of open space at the heart of a Peterborough community.

A trio of caravans arrived at Botolph Green, in Orton Longueville, yesterday.

The area, which is surrounded by homes looking out across the space, plays host to the annual Festival on the Green event.

The encroachment has been reported to police, but residents have been told it may take a week before the travellers can be forced to leave as an eviction order must be issued first.

A member of the Botolph Green Residents’ Association said: The trouble is, it’s not a spare bit of land at all. It’s right in the middle of a housing estate. Wherever you are, you are looking straight out on the green and now you are looking at a collection of caravans.

“I imagine people are aren’t too happy.”

They added: “You can see where they have driven on and unfortunately the night before they arrived we had the heavy downpour. Someone said already they have started to sink into the green.”
