Planned Gypsy site in Berkshire is rejected

From the BBC

Plans to build a Gypsy pitch on a piece of land next to the A4 in Berkshire have been unanimously rejected.

Members of West Berkshire Borough Council's planning committee took a different view to their planning officers over the Beenham site.

They decided it could have an effect on flooding in the area and was not an appropriate development in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The applicant, Boysie Biddle, may now appeal over the decision.

Councillor Graham Pask, chairman of the Eastern Area Planning Committee, said: "We took account of all the advice and all the representations and decided to reject this application on a number of grounds."

The council does have an obligation to provide Travellers with sites.

It currently has 18 spaces and believed three of those are unoccupied.
