Travellers return to Kingsway after clean-up - Dundee

From the Courier

Travellers have re-occupied an area off the Kingsway only days after it was cleaned by the council.

Six caravans, dogs and light industrial equipment are littered across the site next to Dundee Ice Arena. The area had previously been occupied by a large group who left a considerable amount of waste.

“I’m not at all happy they’re back,” said Neil Craik, assistant general manager at the Ice Rink.

“Last time they left an awful mess which the council have only just finished cleaning up,” he added.

The latest unauthorised encampment is the seventh Traveller group to set up in Dundee in recent months. When approached by The Courier for comment, the Travellers said they would not speak as it might damage their business activities.

Lochee councillor Tom Ferguson said: “The public are suffering because of this. We have cuts to services that people are having to put up with and our good money is getting spent cleaning up this mess. It’s not on.”
